MN 06/2026-PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES DURING TROPICAL CYCLONE

1.All Ship Masters, Ship Owners & Ship Agents for foreign & local ships, Pilots, Port Management Companies/Operators, Marinas and Yacht Clubs are advised of the approaching Tropical Cyclone Vaianu.
2.Severe Tropical Cyclone Vaianu (955HPA), Category 3 was located near 18.1 degrees South 174.8 degrees East or about 280 km west of Nadi at 1200 hours, 07/04/26 (local time). The system is currently moving south south-east at 10 knots and is expected to be 310 km south south-west of Kadavu at 1200 hours Wednesday 08/04/26 (local time).
3.Special Marine Weather Bulletins can be accessed from the Fiji Meteorological Service website: https://www.met.gov.fj/alerts/
4.All Maritime transport involving passengers and cargoes including small crafts in the Western, Central and Southern Divisions is to cease from 1800 hours Tuesday 07/04/26 (local time).
5.In exercise of the powers conferred to me under Section 103A (5) of the Maritime Transport Act 2013, I hereby exempt ships from inward and outward clearances on the condition that ships do not carry any passengers and cargoes when going out to sea for the sole purpose of taking necessary precautionary measures for the approaching tropical cyclone.
6.You are further reminded that the master has the final authority of the ship while in command and no person shall prevent or restrict the master of the ship from taking or executing any decision which, in the master’s professional judgement, is necessary for safety of life at sea and protection of the marine environment.
7.Marine Notice 05/2026 is hereby revoked.
