The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) advises all Hotels, Resorts, Commercial Marinas, and Coastal
Establishments that operate or facilitate water recreational activities (including but not limited to jet skiing,
kayaking, banana boat rides, snorkeling tours, paddleboarding, and similar) that these activities are regulated
under:
– The Maritime Transport Act 2013
– The Maritime (Jet Ski and Recreational Boat) Regulations 2014
1. Certification Requirement
Pursuant to the above legislation, any individual, entity, or establishment conducting marine recreational
activities must obtain a Certificate of Compliance from MSAF.
2. Purpose of Certification
This requirement ensures:
– Safe operation of marine-based recreational activities;
– Reduction of accidents and mishaps involving guests and operators;
– Compliance with Fiji’s maritime safety Regulations;
– Protection of life, property, and the marine environment.
3. Immediate Action Required
All relevant operators are required to send in their applications for certification to the Authority at the earliest
opportunity.
Contravention of the requirements under the Maritime (Jet Ski and Recreational Boat) Regulations 2014 may
attract penalty under law including sanction on issued certifications.
