The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) advises that it has come to its attention that there are submerged obstructions which could constitute navigational hazards at the Natovi Jetty. This is due to very recent underwater assessment that there are hazards in the form of boulders in the water very near to the ramp faces (Lower and high ramps) of the Natovi Jetty.
After careful consideration and noting the exceptionally low tides that will be coming in this month, MSAF places greater value on the safety of the travelling public and the avoidance of unnecessary damage to ships and infrastructure. Consequently, MSAF strongly discourages ships berthing and departing at Natovi Jetty. Notice has also been issued to the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) seeking for the immediate removal of the hazard.
According to FRA timeline, the removal of the hazard will be effected within this week.
The travelling public is kindly advised to make necessary arrangements with their respective shipping operators in light of this notice.
