The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) advises that it has come to its attention that there are submerged obstructions which could constitute navigational hazards at the Natovi Jetty. This is due to very recent underwater assessment that there are hazards in the form of boulders in the water very near to the ramp faces (Lower and High ramps) of the Natovi Jetty.
After careful consideration and noting the exceptionally low tides that will be coming in this month, MSAF places greater value on the safety of the travelling public and the avoidance of unnecessary damage to ships and infrastructure. Consequently, MSAF strongly discourages ships berthing and departing at Natovi Jetty. Notice has also been issued to the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) seeking for the immediate removal of the hazard.
The FRA has indicated a temporary closure of Natovi Jetty for a period of twenty-four (24) hours, commencing at 0800 hours on Sunday, 7 June 2026, and concluding at 0800 hours on Monday, 8 June 2026.
During this period, the jetty will be unavailable for normal vessel berthing, loading, and unloading operations to facilitate the necessary works. Vessel operators and the travelling public are advised to make the necessary arrangements and plan their travel accordingly.
Further operation or closure of the Natovi Jetty will be at the discretion of the FRA as the Jetty custodian.
The travelling public is kindly advised to make necessary arrangements with their respective shipping operators in light of this notice.
