MN 11/2023 WEATHER ADVISORY

  1. All Ship Masters, Ship Owners & Ship Agents for foreign & local ships, Pilots, Port Management Companies/Operators, Marinas and Yacht Clubs are advised of the adverse weather warning in the Fiji Group.
  2. Marine Weather Bulletin Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi at 8:30am on Monday the 13th of November 2023 are as follows:
    * A GALE ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR ROTUMA
    * A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR ALL FIJI WATERS
    * A STORM ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE VATU-I-RA PASSAGE, YASAWA, MAMANUCA, KADAVU PASSAGE, KORO SEAS AND NORTHERN VANUA LEVU WATERS.
    * A GALE ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR WESTERN HALF OF VANUA LEVU [DREKETI, BUA TO SAVUSAVU], EASTERN VITI LEVU AND LOMAIVITI GROUP.
    * A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR REST OF FIJI.
    * EXPECT SOUTHEAST WINDS 20 TO 30 KNOTS.
    * ROUGH TO VERY ROUGH SEAS.
    * WINDS INCREASING TO 50 KNOTS, GUSTING TO 70 KNOTS AND BECOMING CLOCKWISE LATER TUESDAY (14/11).
    * SEAS BECOMING VERY ROUGH TO HIGH SEAS LATER TUESDAY (14/11).
  3. All stakeholders are required to take necessary precautionary measures to keep your ships/boats safe at all times.
  4. All Masters are advised to take early action and preventative measures based on good professional decision combined with observance of good seamanship practice to ensure the ship under their command is made safe.
  5. Masters must listen to all marine weather bulletins and updates issued from the Fiji Meteorological Office (www.met.gov.fj) and transmitted through Suva Coast Radio Station (3DP) and the local radio stations.
  6. Ship Master and Owners shall take all necessary to always keep their ship safe.
  7. Ship owners must provide all necessary support to masters of their ships to ensure the ship is kept safe.
  8. Small fishing and local Vessels anchored within the port boundary are to take extra precautions and batten down for heavy seas.
